The Timmins real estate market has been strong in the last couple of years due to the confidence within the community. This is evidenced by the 29% increase of some of the home prices within the last year. Timmins was also rated as the fifth best economy in Canada and it being a regional centre in North Eastern Ontaio has a large cache basin of outlying communities that rely on it. Also the price of gold and base metals is high and is not slowing down as much exploration continues within the area.

New developements in recent times include the deBeers Victor Project Diamond Mine that Timmins is a base for. A new public library and police station, regional sports complex, Home Depot, Canadian Tire, Walmart, Future Shop, Feldman Timber, and Shoppers Drug Mart. Another new development within the City is the Community Improvement Project that is giving grants for downtown rehabilitation.   

 

Renting is a bad idea here's why:

1. The money you pay in rent every month is gone forever.

2. There's no tax advantage to renting. Your landlord benefits from the tax.

3. Your monthly rent can often cost more than a monthly mortgage payment.

4. If you break your lease you could end up in court, but you can sell or rent out your home at anytime.

5. You don't build up equity and get other benefits of investing in property.

6. If you own a home you can take out loans against the property to pay off debt or buy more property.
